Guarantee/Return Policy:

All tubers are guaranteed to be true to name & disease free. Every tuber has been checked at least 3 times for at least one viable eye, and intact body with healthy neck prior to packing.Tuber sizes can vary greatly, from the size of a small battery all the way up to the size of a potato. The tuber size does not correlate with how big or small your plant will grow. Tubers may have marks from being snagged by a spade during lifting but we only ship tubers whose skin has properly healed. Tubers have been dusted with cinnamon to prevent fungus and mold; some may occur during shipping but they will grow regardless if you unpack and plant per directions below. When your tubers arrive, inspect the tubers to make sure your order is correct and you are satisfied with the quality. Some tubers may have their first sprout fully emerged upon arrival, this can be removed to make a cutting (aka a genetic clone), however we do not guarantee tubers which are used for propagation since this depletes the tuber body’s energy stores. Coincidentally, we will never ship a tuber that we have taken a cutting from. Claims must be made via email (with photos) by August 1st, after that time, no replacement will be honored. Replacements will be shipped the following year. Refunds will only be granted if we are no longer growing that particular variety. We are not responsible for customer negligence, weather conditions, pest or insect problems, rodent damage, winter storage, or the performance of plants including variegated or bi-color dahlias going solid. Mystery grab bag tubers will not be labeled, but when they come into bloom you are welcome to scout our inventory photos to make a proper identification.

Dahlia Planting Guide:

Dahlias should be planted when the ground temperature is 60 degrees or warmer.  Planting times will vary depending on what zone you are in. We recommend pre-sprouting your tubers indoors in 6" pots upon arrival if your area is still cold.

Dahlias love sun; the more sun they receive, the more blooms you will have. It is recommended that they receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight a day. Dahlias enjoy warm, well-drained soil.  If you have heavier soil it is best to amend it with sand or peat moss.  If you add compost to your dahlia beds be careful as to not use to much because many composts are high in Nitrogen which will produce tall spindly plants and very small blooms. If you are planting outdoors immediately upon arrival, dig a hole 4-6 inches deep and lay the tuber in it horizontally on it’s side and cover with soil.  If your tuber does have sprouts that are longer than 2-3 inches trim them to a length of 1 inch.  Plant your dahlias 12-24 inches apart. On the farm we plant ours 14" apart and our rows have 12" in between them.  Adding a small amount of bone meal in the bottom of each planting hole will give your dahlia a little extra boost!  In most areas, unless you are in a very warm climate, dahlias DO NOT need to be watered at the time of planting.  Once the dahlias are above ground they require deep watering 2-3 times per week. If you live in a very arid area, you may need to water daily, but do not let your soil stay soggy, as this will lead to tuber rot. When they reach 12" in height, it is ideal "pinch' or cut off the top back four inches to a height of 8". This will encourage your plant to send our more eyes and branches for more blooms!  If you choose to fertilize, use a fertilizer that is low in nitrogen.  AVOID all high nitrogen fertilizers because this will produce spindly plants with small blooms and tubers that are more prone to rot while in storage. We highly recommend foliar feeding with compost tea! Consistently harvesting blooms will encourage your plant to continue to produce flowers instead of shifting into seed production, so fill your vases weekly and share with friends! Unless you live in a warmer climate, you will want to lift your tubers 2 weeks after a killing frost.  When the plants turn brown and black (in cold climates) it is time to dig! Each individual tuber will reproduce throughout the season creating additional tubers beneath the soil that contain the exact same DNA as the variety. Upon lifting, you can carefully split them and place into cool storage (42-48 degrees) to expand your garden the following year. Check out YouTube for proper lifting, splitting, and storage content!
